Is It Safe to Go Out to Eat?
Many people have asked the question, “Can I get the coronavirus from my food?” As of now, according to the FDA, it is not proven that COVID-19 is carried through food; however, there is some risk involved in going out to eat during these trying times.
Read on as our team at AFC Urgent Care Spring Hill explores this helpful topic.
How Can I Stay Safe at Restaurants?
Eating inside of restaurants is considered one of the most high-risk activities for COVID-19, because you will spend time without a mask on. If it’s an option, we recommend ordering delivery or takeout instead.
We know that sometimes the craving is strong, though, and you may find yourself at a restaurant, so if you do go out, we recommend following these suggestions.
Safety Tips for Eating Out
- Wear a mask at all times when not eating.
- Wash or sanitize your hands before eating and after leaving the restaurant.
- Sit at least six feet away from other customers.
- Do not share food.
- Do not use self-serve items.
- Eat in an outdoor space if feasible.
How Does the Virus Spread?
The virus spreads through respiratory droplets produced when a person coughs, sneezes, talks, sings or even breathes. Those droplets can be inhaled by another person, spreading the infection. Those droplets are most commonly exchanged when people are within six feet of one another.
However, it is possible that the droplets can remain in the air and extend distances beyond six feet. They can also land and be transmitted by a person touching the droplets and then touching his or her own mouth, nose or face. Listed below are some ways we can slow the spread of the virus.
Ways to Slow the Spread
- Regularly wash your hands with soap and water.
- Do not touch your face with unwashed hands.
- Wear a mask when in public.
- Stay at least six feet away from others.
- If you must go out, go at times when it is less crowded and follow the guidelines already mentioned.
