How Can My Family Stay Safe From COVID-19?
With businesses beginning to reopen and things return to somewhere closer to “normal,” it would be natural to think the risk of COVID-19 had diminished. But that’s not actually true.
In fact, cases of COVID-19 are on a rapid rise in the United States and in Tennessee more specifically. As of July 2, there have 2.74 million cases of the virus diagnosed in the United States, including 46,890 cases in Tennessee alone.
It’s important that everyone take action to protect themselves and others, which is why our team at AFC Urgent Care Spring Hill wants to share some insight on the topic.
How Do Masks Stop the Spread of COVID-19?
Face coverings are a frequent topic of conversation these days, and they’re mandated in public in many places, including Nashville. But how do they work?
COVID-19 is spread through airborne particles, which are released into the air when an infected person sneezes, coughs or breathes. When everyone wears a mask, those particles stay mainly inside the face covering, limiting transmission of the virus.

What Else Can I Do to Stay Safe?
Your best defense against the spread of COVID-19 is still to stay at home as much as possible. But that isn’t always possible.
When you need to venture outside the home, it’s important to follow basic safety precautions outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
COVID-19 Prevention
- Avoid large gatherings and crowds.
- Stay at least six feet away from others out in public.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds each time.
- Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available.
